Inoui Editions

Together with the musée du Louvre, Inoui Editions presents a highly desirable collection of squares, scarves, bags and accessories that epitomises the Louvre. This collaboration unfolds across three themes:
Architecture is inspired by Louis-Pierre Baltard's prints indexing the museum's façades, columns, mouldings, gables, archways and staircases... The designs woven from light and shadows are reminiscent of antique gouache wallpaper.

Archive is an imaginary visit behind the scenes of the museum, at the heart of the casting workshops and a fantasy gypsum library. Busts, vases, fragments, amphorae, bas-reliefs, etc: antique works and objects of art are cut into large, iconic silhouettes to compose a collage of all eras, in tones that recall the original polychrome decorations of ancient statues and terracotta.

Louvre revisits the Paris of the Enlightenment by intersecting two graphic universes that never actually met, but work together wonderfully: the engraving of the famous Turgot plan (made between 1734 and 1739), a classic of the genre, remarkable for its precision and detail, and the Paisley (or boteh, or cashmere) motifs found on bandanas. It should be recalled that the bandana is derived from indiennes, fabrics imported into France from India in huge quantities during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Each of these squares, bandanas and stoles, made from silk, wool and cotton, is screen printed by hand, an ancient printing process that remains a favourite of Inoui Editions. The craftsmanship is also reflected in every detail of each piece of leather in the collection: Italian leather, adjustable handles, printed inner pockets, engraved brass buttons... Each piece is carefully and individually packed, making the pleasure of discovering and unfolding your square in the sunlight even more delectable.
