Engraving Jaffa - Georg Baselitz 1995

Georg Kern, known as Georg Baselitz, was born in Deutschbaselitz (Germany) in 1938. He studied in Berlin, where he was influenced by Expressionism and Informalism.

His palette, applied in flat tints, is limited and contrasting. He also plays with densities, with thicknesses and drips. His work operates in series, representative of his pictorial experiments. Baselitz favors drawing and printmaking to explore his motifs. He is particularly interested in the ugly, tormented and bruised body, and over the last six decades has created new, provocative images. He also paints the female body: in 1990, following the fall of the Berlin Wall, he created the sculpture series Femmes de Dresde. The print Jaffa is part of a series of female nudes bearing the names of Oriental cities (Oran, Amman, etc.). It features the artist's signature inverted body and contrasts.
