Zurbarán Exhibition Catalog

To be published on October 2, 2026

Published to coincide with a major solo exhibition at the Louvre, this book celebrates Francisco de Zurbarán (Fuente de Cantos, 1598-Madrid, 1664), a leading figure in 17th-century Spanish painting alongside Velázquez and Murillo. Long regarded as a Caravaggesque painter marked by monastic austerity, Zurbarán was rediscovered in the 20th century as an exceptional colorist.

His unique, instantly recognizable style is distinguished by a radical simplification of forms, a striking luminosity, and the almost sculptural presence of his figures. Beyond serving as an exhibition catalog, this book offers readers a rich and accessible overview of Zurbarán's work, bringing together not only his major religious commissions but also portraits and still lifes of rare power.
