This cast reproduces one of the numerous images decorating the inside of the sarcophagus of Taho.
It is an admirable anthropoid sarcophagus, cut in black basalt, a dark and hard stone. Its interior is decorated with numerous figurines and inscriptions, related to the navigation of the sun in the underground world.
It hosted the body of Taho, son of Renpetneferet. These names, along with the style of representation, date this object to the 4th century BC. It is one of the most beautiful monuments bought in Egypt by Champollion in 1827. The interior of the basin is decorated with a procession of divinities and funerary geniuses related to the art of mummification, in particular Anubis and the four sons of Horus. These geniuses are traditionally related to the protection of the dead man's viscera. They are also found on the canopic jars that contain the viscera.
