Engraving Atlantique I - Geneviève Asse 1993

Since 1989, the Louvre Museum and the Réunion des musées nationaux have entrusted contemporary artists with the task of producing engraved plates for Chalcograpie, which ensures the exclusivity of the print run, without limitation on the number of prints.

Geneviève Bodin, known as Geneviève Asse was born in Vannes in 1923. Initially seduced by still life, Geneviève Asse gradually moved towards abstraction in the 1950s. She then mastered pure, uncluttered lines structured by large masses of vaporous colors, most often blue: "Blue came to me", she says, as a synonym for infinity, distance and space. This etching, full of luminous vibrations, captures the light thanks to the grain of the aquatint. Color and line organize the composition. The line is suspended in the space of the symmetrical dialogue between the two plates that make up the work.
