This book presents the pictorial encounter between a great painter and a great writer at a time when Europe was passionate about the independence of Greece. In May 1824, Eugène Delacroix read a poem by Byron, Le Giaour, and wrote in his diary: "Faire le Giaour. "The poem tells a story of love, betrayal and murderous revenge in Greece under Turkish rule. Delacroix en fera plusieurs tableaux et une lithographie, que le livre permet de confronter. Grâce aux dessins et objets présentés, il offre la possibilité de porter un nouveau regard sur le processus créatif du peintre.
The book also shows how artists such as Hector Berlioz, Ary Scheffer or Alexandre Dumas were able to illustrate Le Giaour in all fields: painting, theatre, music... up to the 20th century.
