The Musée du Louvre conserves an exceptional collection of Settecento paintings, most of which were assembled in the second half of the 20th century. Following two volumes devoted to 17th-century Italian paintings in the Musée du Louvre (1996, 2006), this work completes the publication of the catalog raisonné of the Musée du Louvre's collection of Italian Baroque paintings.
It takes into account, according to identical principles, paintings from all the regional centers present in the collections (Bologna, Florence, Genoa, Lombardy, Naples, Rome and Venice), by artists born between 1655 and 1754. Each painting is the subject of as comprehensive a study as possible, enabling us to take stock of our knowledge of this magnificent ensemble. Detailed notes are provided for 187 paintings in the Musée du Louvre, as well as for 151 others housed outside the museum.
