This piece is based on the astrolabe made by the famous craftsman Diya'al Din Muhammad (1647, Lahore), which is at the Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum, Chicago.
The astrolabe is closer to the original but, at the same time, updated and furnished with certain essential elements that make it useful in present times. The rete was updated, it is furnished with a regula, the limbus was adapted following traditional "European" instruments, and finally, the plate is calculated for latitude 21º32' (Jeddah).
