After the Royal and Divine Statues, published in 2007, this is the second volume of the Louvre's catalogue of Egyptian statues of the New Kingdom. Its one hundred and sixty-two entries devoted to individuals, to which are added six additional notes to the first volume, offer an exhaustive panorama of the museum's collection for this sumptuous period.
The volume of texts is devoted to the description and analysis of the data, rigorously distinct from each other, followed by very complete indexes, while the volume of plates includes, for each statue or statuette, numerous photographs and line drawings of all the inscriptions. The book is a must-read for anyone interested in the art and culture of Egypt's New Kingdom. The result of a very long reflection by the author, who frequented the Louvre's collections for nearly four decades, it delivers an anthropological approach to Egyptian thought on the image, which should largely renew research in this field, well beyond the strict perimeter of the subject.
