My grandfather this hero!
Babi Maklouf spent his childhood in Algeria, before embarking for the country of freedom and human rights at the end of the 1930s. Fascinated by France, the young man packed his bags with his wife and children in Paris. and soon finds a job that is surprising to say the least: night guard at the Louvre Museum! Here he is surrounded by the greatest masterpieces of History and rubbing shoulders with Delacroix, Da Vinci and other Géricault! But when, in June 1940, the German army arrived at the gates of Paris, all these master paintings had to be quickly sheltered at the risk of seeing them fall into the hands of the invader. Chosen to be one of the drivers of these precious trucks, Babi agrees to save this priceless heritage on one condition: that his family accompany him. Then begins a perilous journey through an occupied country where fear and desolation are never far away. Determined, Babi will demonstrate simple courage and unfailing optimism to serve France in his own way and protect his family...
"Imagine the perfect grandfather and you will see him appear before your eyes, Babi" It is with these words that the incredible true story of Babi Maklouf begins, through which director Élie Chouraqui pays a vibrant tribute to his own grandfather. The harmonious drawing in warm colors by Letizia Depedri, who signs her first comic strip, magnifies this moving travel story where the courage of a man and his love for France resonate.
