Hans Holbein le jeune (1497-1543)

Hans Holbein the Younger (1497-1543) was a German Renaissance painter and engraver. Born in Augsburg, he was famous for his precise, detailed portraits, and settled in Basel and London. Hans Holbein the Younger became court painter to King Henry VIII. He is renowned for his realistic depictions of the elite of the age, as well as for his religious works and engravings. His art combines meticulousness and mastery of human expression, as evidenced by iconic works such as The Ambassadors (1533).
