A classic theme in Christian iconography, the marriage of Mary and Joseph is a significant episode in the Virgin's life. The ring, a symbol of this union, is at the center of the composition and is about to be slipped onto the bride-to-be's finger. Three putti hover above the scene, pouring a basket of flowers onto the couple, some of which already litter the ground in front of the figures. The Virgin, dressed in a sumptuous gown and a wreath of flowers holding her veil, is strikingly illuminated. Her loose hair, the delicacy of her hands, and the beauty of her attire exude great grace.
Inscription: "VIRGO DESPONSATA VIRO CVI NOMEN ERAT IOSEPH DE DOMO DAVID ET NOMEN VIRGINIS MARIA. Lucæ I."
