A constant reference, an immutable landmark, Eshmunazor's sarcophagus is one of the flagship works of the Louvre's Phoenician collection, around which the collection has developed and organized. Although its size and massive corpulence are sufficient to attract attention, its interest is above all of an epigraphic nature: exceptional in its length and the extent of the historical information it contains, the inscription engraved on this sarcophagus was considered to be the classic form of Phoenician writing.
