WRITTEN IN FRENCH
This volume, which is dedicated to Andrea del Verrocchio (1435/1436-1488) and two of his most brilliant satellites, Francesco di Simone Ferrucci (c. 1437-1493) and Lorenzo di Credi (c. 1459-1537), pays homage to the most prestigious of Florence's workshops in the second half of the fifteenth century.
It was in this forge of talents that Leonardo da Vinci, Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino and Domenico Ghirlandaio began their training. It was also in this melting pot that, for the first time in Florence, drawing took on its full value as a research, as a studio repertoire, and as an impeccable tool for the observation of the human figure.
The drawings in the Louvre's collection, of prestigious provenance, offer us particularly significant sheets of this subtle and refined graphic production, always conducted to the highest degree of excellence. An essay written by Mrs. Gigetta Dalli Regoli, an emeritus specialist in the Florentine Renaissance, is followed by entries dedicated to all the drawings by Verrocchio, Francesco di Simone Ferrucci and Lorenzo di Credi, kept in the Cabinet of Drawings of the Louvre.
