FRENCH LANGUAGE
Works from the Iranian world constitute one of the major entities of the Department of Islamic Art. Since the second half of the 19th century, the collections of the Louvre and the Decorative Arts museums have been enriched by paintings, carpets and textiles, ceramic and metal objects: all productions in which drawing, colour and calligraphy are used.
More than a catalogue raisonné, this work offers a new look at the works, through a synthesis offering a global vision of medieval production, a complete technical analysis, a presentation of the collection through the prism of its manufacturing centres, but also of the functions and contexts of use of the objects.
The iconography includes numerous photographs of the works, as well as X-rays and microscopic views, which reveal what we cannot see. These images reflect the project of this book, a multidisciplinary study in which art history, archaeology, archaeometallurgy, and textual sources have been used to present this major heritage collection to a readership of amateurs and specialists, as well as to visitors to the Louvre.
