WINGED VICTORY OF SAMOTHRACE 34 CM - SAFFRON YELLOW
Rmn-GP casting of the Winged Victory of Samothrace - Collection SAMO HIP from the original in Parian marble exhibited in the Louvre.
Following extensive research on Greek sculptures, traces of red, blue, green or yellow pigments were found, indicating that these artworks were polychrome. The Rmn-GP's moulding workshop then had the idea of dressing its reproductions in monochrome and matt colours, in tones corresponding to the current trend. Discovered at the end of the 19th century on the island of Samothrace, this sculpture was made to commemorate a maritime victory. The extraordinary virtuosity of the drapery creates the power of the work and the illusion of the movement that animates it; Victory seems to rest on the bow. 3D technology has been used to faithfully reproduce this reduction and has made it possible to integrate the latest restorations made on the original.
