BLUE HIPPOPOTAMUS PLUSH - LARGE MODEL
In the time of the pharaohs and when hippopotamuses were a danger to men when hunting, they were hunted by wealthy people.
Egyptian artists often depicted these hunting scenes in tombs, especially during the Old Kingdom. In the Middle Kingdom, it had become common to place hippopotamus figures in tombs. They were made of bright blue earthenware and had black painted decoration on their bodies to represent the aquatic environment in which these animals lived. As submerged in the wave, the hippopotamus would represent the primordial swamp, the Noun.
